Announcements (Does anybody read these?)

  • Congregational Meeting next week after the sanctuary service (We hope it won’t be too long)
  • For a little while Jordan will only be recording the sermon on audio.

Note that this is a very different Sunday. It is holy humor Sunday, which is explained in the sermons. The bulletin was done with funny fonts and with comics throughout. The hymns were funny versions of well known to

Call to Worship

Joy is loose, In the wiggles of the children,

The whispers of the youth, The smiles of the adults.

We praise God for this glorious day,

Let the praise break forth in the most unlikely places and in silly ways.

Joy and praise fill our hearts and in our songs

Let the laughter be deep, for we are God's people.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Lord and Savior.

He had the last laugh on the devil when He rose from the dead.

Praise Song- God Bless You Merry Sinner (Tune: God Bless Ye Merry

God bless you merry sinner,
you're forgiven it is true;
Remember Christ your Savior

has lived and died for you,
and lives again as King of Kings,
of saint and sinner, too.

Oh, tidings of Easter peace and joy,
peace and joy.
Oh, tidings of Easter peace and joy.

 Jerusalem at Calvary
that dismal Friday morn,
amid the pain and suffering
eternal life was born.
It came with arms outstretched to us,
right through the curtain torn.

So sing an alleluia,
for our Savior's victory,
and shout to all “Hosanna!”
that we have been set free
from sin and death and devil's grip

throughout eternity.

Hark The Herald Angel Said

(Tune: Hark the Herald Angels Sing)
Hark the herald angel said,
“Why seek Jesus with the dead?
He's not here, as you can see,
gravecloths lie where he would be.
On your way now, tell the others,
Jesus will be with his brothers.
Sisters, too, he wants to see
on the hills of
Hark the herald angel said,
“He is risen from the dead!”

Pastoral Prayer of Joy

Sermon- Pastor Jordan will give a hilarious (but also well-informed) sermon that will make you laugh, cry, and feel encouraged…and hopefully isn’t too long.

Scripture       (It is church, after all.)

  • Proverbs 17:22- A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
  • Galatians 5:22–23- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Closing Hymn- Take Time to Be Funny (tune:  Take time to be holy”)

Take time to be funny, rejoice in the Lord

Let laughter explode and have fun with God’s Word

For laughter is healing, gives strength to the weak

God loves to see smiles, for they lift up the meek.

Take time to be silly, it’s good for the soul

Too many are somber, grabbing at control.

Let go and let God’s love wash over your soul

Heavenly transcendence can be your life’s goal.

Old Sarah and Abram a child they lacked

But God’s angels promised and she birthed Isaac

In Hebrew that’s “laughter”, go check if you want

Genesis Seven-teen is where it is found.

For humor is holy, it sanctifies life,

Replenishes hope and oft softens advice

It undercuts sorrow, deflates haughty pride

So smile and hang on, and rejoice in life’s ride.

Closing Commission

The Laughing One called us together

so we could share in the laughter of life.

The Laughing One sends us out,

to carry the joy of life and love to the world.

Go out to laugh, to live to love. And when you hear a good joke...

remember that sharing is a great thing!

Doxology Remix

Praise God from whom all our joy comes

Turn to laughter what life becomes

Lean towards humor, on bad days most

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
